It is probably the world’s largest bamboo. This species is widely distributed from India to East Asia and Malaysia. The light gray, waxy culms can reach a height of 30 m (100 feet) high and an amazing 30 cm (12 inches) in diameter. The very large leaves can reach more than 45 cm (18 inches) in length. The large culms are used for construction. It is suitable for cultivation in tropical and warm temperate climates in USDA zones 10 and above, but reaches its greatest size in the humid tropics.
