Description

A moderately large bamboo native to rainforests up to 1000 m (3300 ft) from Taiwan and China to Burma. Has green culms up to about 24 m (80 ft) high and up to 10 cm (4 inches) in diameter. It is easy to grow in all tropical climates. Prefers heavy soil and can also tolerate drought. The culms are used for the construction and production of chopsticks and other goods and provide pulp for making paper. The young shoots are edible and is one of the best species for the canning industry.
