Cupressus sempervirens, commonly known as the Mediterranean cypress or pencil pine, is a type of cypress native to the eastern Mediterranean, in northeastern Libya, southeastern Greece), southern Turkey, Cyprus, western Syria, Lebanon and Jordan.It is a medium-sized, evergreen tree up to 35 m in height, with a cone-shaped crown with level branches and twigs variable hanging. It is very long-lived tree, some trees are reported to be more than 1000 years old. The foliage grows in dense sprays, dark green in color. The leaves are scale-like, 2–5 mm long and produced on rounded (non-flattened) shoots.
