Jacaranda Mimosifolia 20 seeds
€2,50
The tree grows to a height of 5 to 15 meters (16 to 49 feet). The bark is thin and grayish-brown in color, smooth as the tree young although it eventually becomes finely scaly. The twigs are slender and slightly zigzag, they are a light red-brown in color. The flowers are up to 5 cm long, and are grouped into 30 cm panicles. They appear in spring and early summer and last up to two months. They are followed by woody seed pods, about 5 cm in diameter, in which contain numerous flat, winged seeds. The Blue Jacaranda is grown even in areas where it rarely blooms, because of its large compound leaves. These are up to 45 cm long and bi-pinnately composite, with leaflets just over 1 cm long. A white form is available from nurseries.
Rich flowering is considered by some wonderful and quite messy by others. The unusually shaped, hard pods, which are about 2 to 3 inches (5–7.5 cm) across, are often collected, cleaned and decorated for use on Christmas trees and in dried arrangements.
