Best known by the name “tulip tree. The true tulip tree, however, is Liriodendron. Very well known shrub to be planted as a solitary in a sheltered, sunny location. They thrive best in fresh, permeable, humus-rich, non-calcareous soil. Early flowering ( April – May ) before leaf development. Large, calyx-shaped flowers, white on the inside, white with faint pink stripe on the outside, fragrant.
