Musa acuminata 15 seeds
€2,95
All edible bananas are cultured products based on Musa acuminata (whether or not in combination with Musa balbisiana). There are about 400 common varieties of banana. The assortment can be divided into varieties for fresh consumption and into varieties for baking or cooking. In addition, there are varieties with special properties such as the apple banana, baby banana and red banana.
Before the outbreak of Panama disease, the ‘Gros Michel’ was the most widely grown for export. Qualitatively, this is the best banana for export. This variety has been partly replaced by ‘Giant Cavendish’, which is now the most widely grown banana for export. In particular, the clone ‘Valery’ of the robusta variety is widely grown for export, because of its better resistance to Panama disease and because it is more resistant to strong winds. A useful variant that is resistant to the Black Sigatoka disease is still being sought.
