This beautiful variety is most likely a cross between the Musa sikkimensis and the Musa “Chini-Champa” and has very sweet, tasty fruits, very popular in the Darjeeling region in India.
Musa “Chini-Champa” is responsible for the quality of the fruit and its color: the red midrib, the red underside of the leaves, the white waxy petioles and the reddish trunk.
Musa sikkimensis seems to be responsible for the winter hardiness which ensures that this banana can grow up to 1700 meters. A unique crossbreed.
The fruits are full of seeds but the quality is very good. Probably one of the few cold tolerant bananas.
