A fairly slow-growing conifer that is initially narrow pyramidal but later grows wide pyramidal. At first the bark is still smooth and silvery but later it becomes rougher and reddish brown. Young branches are orange-brown and become dark reddish-brown in the second year. The needles are intensely blue-gray in color both on the upper side and on the underside. In the autumn, the large cones appear that change colour from blue-green to reddish-brown. A. procera ‘Glauca’ wears cones at an early age.
