There are more than a hundred species and as many as one hundred and fifty varieties of Abutilon. I don’t know who knows their way around that. At an Abutilon exhibition you can see one shrub after another with beautifully colored flowers or different shapes of the flower.

Abutilon pictum ‘Thompsonii’ Abutilon has been out of favor for a while. Due to troubles such as the dropping of flower and leaves or animal infestations, many gave up. Once you have discovered the beauty of Abutilon, you can get hooked on it and become an avid collector. Abutilon likes to grow and bloom in a warm place sheltered from the wind. Do not put the plant in full sun; Tempered sunlight is best. A bush, which is in full sun, makes the leaf curl and eventually loses that leaf. Abutilon also likes to grow in a hanging basket. The flowers and the shape of the shrub then come into particular focus. Water the bush very regularly and liquid plant food for flowering plants once every two weeks. Do not put Abutilon outside until there is absolutely no more frost. Due to a temperature that is too low, growth stagnates. Hibernate the bush at a minimum temperature of between 6 – 12 °C.
