Agave chrysantha grows over a relatively small portion of central Arizona, at the headwaters of the Sonoran Desert, it can be seen in locations such as the Superstition Mountains east of Phoenix and eastern Saguaro National Park near Tucson. Leaves are grayish-green or bluish-green in color, convex underside and strongly concave on top, bordered by small teeth between half and just over an inch apart. Leaves narrow to a sharp, brownish, grooved back. Adult plants form a rosette 5 feet wide, and when flowering produce a very long stem bearing clusters of brilliant yellow flowers.
