An attractive and fascinating plant, this large Agave from forests in the Mexican states of Colima, Jalisco, Michoacan and Guerrero forms a loose rosette of soft, fleshy, pale green and bluish leaves that can reach a diameter of up to 2 m (7 ft.). This is not a desert plant and appreciates a warm spot in filtered light and plenty of water in the summer. Agave gypsophila has been confused in the past with the now newly described A. pablocarilloi and A. kristenii; the true A. gypsophila is actually quite rare in cultivation and its native habitat a dangerous area that most will avoid
