A beautiful, large ginger native to humid forests from Japan’s Riukiu Islands and Taiwan through southern China to the Malay Peninsula. It forms dense clusters of sturdy, erect shoots with large, leathery, dark green leaves and terminal inflorescences with waxy, white or pink, red-spotted flowers witha red and yellow throat. It is a popular ornamental plant for tropical and warm temperate regions and one of the cold, hardier gingers.
