Typical for the fruit is the coarse-scaled skin that consists of irregular bud-shaped, strongly arched, fleshy parts, which in a fully ripe state only just stick together. The 2 mm thick skin is ripe usually green to yellow-green and blue, but some varieties get pink and violet fruits. The pulp is creamy white, ripened very soft, juicy and mushy, fine-grained and sweet-aromatic in taste. Outwardly, this ripe flesh is reminiscent of yogurt. The fruit contains many 1.5 cm large seeds.
