The Caesalpinia gilliesii or Bird of Paradise Bush is actually a tropical/subtropical leguminous plant. This Caesalpinia gilliesii is an exotic shrub/tree.
The exotic is also called the Bird of Paradise Bush and is leafy when it gets through the winter at +6ºC.
When it is around freezing, it loses its leaves.
The leaf resembles that of the sleeping tree and is also double-pinnate, these leaves also fold together in the evening in sleep mode.
The inflorescence is very beautiful and looks tropical.
It is an ideal container plant for a terrace or balcony. Planting in open ground is possible, provided it is very well protected against moderate and severe frosts.
At the end of the flowering period in late summer, pods appear from the finished flowers. These are 10/15 cm long. The seed in these pods is difficult to germinate in our climate.
