Opuntia microdasys
is a cactus belonging to the disk cacti. The species is native to northern Mexico, but today can be found throughout the world in drought-resistant plantings in regions where it does not freeze and cactus collections.
The plant forms oval-round to oblong-oval annual shoots 10 cm wide and 15 cm high at the top of the old shoots. The plants grow into a shrub from 60 cm to one meter tall. The new leafy stem segments have yellow spines, later turning brown. There are also forms with red or white spines on the young members. The plant blooms with about 5 cm yellow flower.
The plant is in use as a houseplant.
