This fantastic new Trachycarpus species was discovered not long ago on the high-altitude areas in the Himalayas near the border area of Burma near Nagaland and Manipur in India.
There are at least 7 separate populations, growing in a remote area where access is almost impossible for Westerners.
It has a straight, bare trunk about 15 meters high, and is also known as Trachycarpus sp. Naga hills and Trachycarpus sp. Ukrhulensis.
It is closely related to Trachycarpus princeps, Trachycarpus takil and Trachycarpus oreophilus. When the plant is still young, it crawls quite a bit and has striking thick, gray-green leaves on elongated petioles. The characteristic white color of the underside of the leaves is visible once the adult leaves develop. This palm is very frost resistant, larger than the Trachycarpus fortunei and has impressive white undersides on the leaves and it looks like this is one of the best palms for the future.
