It retains its needles and can reach 20 meters or 70 feet or more in nature.
The trunk is dark brown with greenish and red shades, covered with fine flaking bark.
You can see small cracks there. The needles are dark green on the back.
The opposite is pale green with two raised bands. It is much darker green than Japanese white pine and more resistant to cold.
The tree blooms in June and the seeds hatch in October.
The flowers are monoecious, male or female, but both sexes can be found on the same tree.
The tree forms green cones.
