Description

Chinese elm thrives in full sun and/or partial shade. In temperate climates, it can even be left outside during the winter months. If you have a Chinese Elm Bonsai indoors, you can place it outside in summer, but it is best to bring it into a cool but frost-free room in winter. Chinese elm can usually tolerate some frost, but it varies depending on the region from which it was imported. Trees from northern Chinese regions are more frost-resistant than those from southern regions. Depending on winter temperatures, Chinese elms drop their leaves or keep them until spring when the new shoots emerge.
